Prepares vehicle and equipment for service; waits for assignment from the Communications Center and responds directly and safely to assignments; functions as an alternative vehicle operator, conducts patient assessments; provides patient care while on-scene of a call and during transport; is responsible for conducting all invasive procedures if accompanied by a BLS certified partner; applies extrication skills as required; prepares patients under varying environments to be safely moved to the vehicle for transport; is responsible for cooperating with partners to provide for the safe and smooth transport of everyone on-board vehicle; unloads the patient from the vehicle, and transfer patient care to the receiving facility; completes required documentation, and prepares vehicle and equipment for the next assignment; this position is required to follow directives from the Communications Center.

Cadet Program: EMS Placement Program

July 24th Start Date

The RAA Cadet Program is a full-time comprehensive training program, which will provide accepted attendees the opportunity to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B).

ANSWER THE CALL:  BECOME AN EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER TODAY!

Position Information:

Under the direction of the Communication Supervisor, the EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (ECO) is responsible for receiving and answering emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, comprehending and relaying information quickly and accurately, and dispatching appropriate resources.  Using approved System Status Management techniques, the ECO (also referred to as System Status Controller) serves as the first contact with callers and, as such, will often be called upon to calm and direct the actions of lay persons, prior to the arrival of EMS personnel using Medical Priority Dispatch protocols.  The ECO passes on pertinent information and provides direction to ambulance and supervisory personnel.  Success in this role requires individuals to possess the innate ability to perform several tasks at one time.

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Operating Officer through the Training Manager, the Training Coordinator is responsible for analyzing the training needs of field staff, developing the curriculum, and delivering courses. The Training Coordinator evaluates the trainee for the effectiveness of training and individual employee growth and is responsible for the development of reporting for measurement of training needs and results.

The Communications Supervisor oversees the daily activities of his/her shift within the communications center and is directly responsible for the activities of the staff. The supervisor has the authority, in the absence of the Director, to enforce policy and make supervisory decisions affecting the positive outcome of the organization’s operation.

The mission and purpose of this position are to provide technical and managerial support to all Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) departments in the areas of safety and risk management.  The Safety and Risk Manager serves as a staff specialist in safety and risk by developing, implementing, and monitoring procedures that effectively reduce accidental losses in the Authority and assure regulatory compliance.  The Safety and Risk Manager also identifies risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security, or financial success of RAA. In addition, the Safety and Risk Manager will serve as the point of contact for proper maintenance and upkeep of all RAA Buildings.

EMS Placement Program

The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) created the EMS Placement Program to help highly motivated candidates find a career path in Emergency Medical Services. This unique opportunity offers carefully selected students the chance to work for RAA as they’re trained to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) in the field. Selected candidates will be hired with the opportunity to be cross trained as a Logistics Service Technician (LST) in RAA’s Logistics Department or System Status Controller (SSC) in RAA’s Communications Department.  Employees in the program will have their EMT-B certifications paid for by RAA and will be expected to complete a minimum of 16 hours of course material per week. Employees who successfully complete the EMS Placement Program will be offered full time employment with RAA. New Employee Information

The Richmond Ambulance Authority offers extensive training that specifically prepares our Paramedics, EMTs, and Logistics staff to work in the City of Richmond. Each employee will go through New Employee Orientation (NEO) filled with classroom exercises and our award winning Emergency Vehicle Operators Course – (EVOC). New employees will also get Continuing Education credits. Our experienced and highly qualified trainers will make sure you are prepared before you go out into the field for preception. We are dedicated to making sure you have all the skills and knowledge necessary to protect yourself, patients and the public.     Are you a Paramedic or EMT in another state interested in working at RAA?

    The Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services will accept and consider applications from providers with current EMS certifications from ANY state or U.S. territory for certification in Virginia at the EMT level only through Legal Recognition. For more information and to download a Legal Recognition application package visit the Virginia Department of Health.

    The Office of Emergency Medical Services recognizes all current National Registry certifications for reciprocity. Anyone who is coming into Virginia’s EMS system with a current National Registry certification will be required to complete an Application for Reciprocity and mail copies of EMS credentials to the Division of Educational Development of the Office of EMS.
