The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA), in partnership with the Richmond City Health District (RCHD), began administering COVID-19 vaccines to homebound patients April 12th last year in an effort to vaccinate City residents who are unable to get to a vaccination site, doctor’s office or pharmacy. Since implementing the program, RAA has administered vaccinations to 354 homebound patients. That number continues to grow as RAA and RCHD continue to vaccinate the City’s homebound population. RAA and RCHD are urging unvaccinated residents who do not have easy access to the vaccine to schedule a homebound visit through RCHD.
“We know vaccines work, are safe and effective in our fight against COVID-19,” said RAA CEO Chip Decker. “This program continues to be a wonderful option for those in the community suffering barriers when it comes to access to the vaccine.”
During the program’s peak, RAA was vaccinating up to 20 homebound patients per week. RAA and RCHD are thankful to continue offering this as an option in the community and hope to see more residents take advantage of the program.
“The homebound vaccination program is an incredible way for folks who might have difficulty getting to a clinic to get a COVID-19 vaccine,” explains Dr. Melissa Viray, Deputy Director of RHHD. “We’re honored to help offer COVID-19 protection to people who are an important part of our community.”
