The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) teamed up with “The Market at 25th” in Richmond to offer free Hands-Only CPR demonstrations and give out training kits to residents. The event was the first in a series of quarterly events that will be held at the store by RAA and AHA with the goal of getting as many people as possible to learn the lifesaving skill.
Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be just as effective and is meant to get more bystanders more involved in helping a victim who suddenly collapses. Every minute CPR is delayed, a victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10%. There are two simple steps that can save a life. If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse: 1. Call 9-1-1 2. Interlock your hands and push hard and fast in the center of the victim’s chest with the bridge of your hands until help arrives.
Immediate CPR from someone nearby can double—even triple—their chance of survival.
