The Richmond Ambulance Authority hosted the Southern route of the National EMS Bike Ride ahead of National EMS Week Wednesday. The ride honors Emergency Medical Services personnel by organizing and implementing long distance cycling events that memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve everyday, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty.
The riders, hailing from agencies as far as Texas, California, Alaska and Canada, began their journey in Raleigh, North Carolina before arriving in Richmond. We were happy to provide breakfast, beverages, and snacks for them before they departed for Hanover Fire and EMS to honor fallen EMS workers.
The ceremony included recognizing fallen Hanover Fire and EMS Lt. Brad Clark and his wife for her efforts to raise awareness for the state’s Move Over law. The group eventually departed on the way to Washington, D.C. From there they will meet with the Northern route in Maryland and travel to New York.
